Lovely little scrap from the 1993 German Grand Prix at the old (proper) Hockenheim Ring. Never seen this before.

A new single-seater series, called 'Formula UK', is set to start in 2017 - potentially running as a winter championship. Using a 640bhp 4.0L V10 (!) engine, and with more downforce than a current GP2 car, it could be good to watch. Must say that the chassis definitely reminds me of the 'consumer race car' Lotus T125...

A fairly uneventful qualifying today. Some mix in the grid. Could be a good race, especially with a safety car or two. Red Bulls both starting on the Super Soft tyre could be a cat amongst the pigeons.

Heavy rain in Signapore, last night, means that they will be running on a very green track today. Should make things interesting - higher degradation on the Ultra Soft tyres will fall further into Red Bull's hands...

Also check out the Blancpain GT series stream (kindly provided by NISMO). Coverage starts at 13:00 UK time. This is my favourite GT racing series! Can't wait to see them in the UK next year.

A fairly bland race, until the last few laps, yesterday. Back markers ruined what could have been quite an exciting finish. Onto Malaysia in two weeks!

A fantastic short film by Red Bull, about the life of a suspension bolt:

Business as usual, then. Remember what I was saying about F1 being car-limited? Look at the running order, aside from those who either made mistakes or suffered issues...

Interesting video. It's possble to scale this up to a few of the other 'high end' manufacturing industries too. There are also entire businesses just build around any one of those processes such as non-destructive testing. That's the bit in the video where the bolt goes into the dark room and subjected to dye penetrant inspection where the technician looks for cracks/pits (the developer powder is retained in the cracks so that they show up as flourescent green under the UV light if there were any). That type of low volume manufacture of bespoke designs with special materials, special treatments, stringent quality control and traceability goes a long way to explaining how you can end up with a bolt that costs £2K, an airliner that costs £300M or a powerplant that costs £37bn. Also with the latter two examples you have to control the entire life cycle of that bolt - where it's going and how it's disposed of. I.e. for aerospace it can't end up on the black market and for the powerplant it may be classed as nuclear waste.
